Today I finally made it to the field station to look at specimens! After a less-than-productive week (in terms of producing things, at least... I did have some productive meetings and rearranging-UBS sessions) it was exciting to go see these inspiring bird and mammal skins.
I took over 100 pictures, these are just some of my favorites. Next week I'll be coming back to draw them in person.
Some of the birds were over a century old. Everything was so gorgeous and fragile.
I'll keep you guys updated on that whole vegan-obsessed-with-taxidermy thing.
PS: the professor showing me around told me that these bats are mummified! How awesome is that. And you can't tell in this picture, but they are tiny.

Hey! I really like taxonomy too. Since I became a vegan, I've actually been more and more fascinated by butcher's shops and fish markets in Chinatown - it affects me in this really intense, visceral way, but there's no disgust and only a little sadness.
